Room to Gather - Milford apartment kitchen extension
This Milford apartment kitchen was thoughtfully extended rather than completely replaced, retaining the existing white cabinetry while creating significantly more space for storage, preparation and entertaining. A four-metre island now provides generous seating for visiting friends and family, while new timber-look cabinetry and lighter surfaces give the kitchen a warmer, brighter and more spacious feel.

SCOPE:
An extension and partial renovation of the existing apartment kitchen, including new benchtops, splashback, island, appliance storage, display cabinetry and integrated power.
DESIGN CHALLENGE:
Expanding the kitchen’s storage and entertaining capacity while retaining the existing cabinetry and ensuring the new elements felt fully integrated rather than added on. The apartment selling also required the design to work carefully within the established space and services.
DESIGN RESPONSE:
The original black granite benchtops, upstand and coloured splashback were replaced with Caesarstone Organic White, visually lightening the kitchen and extending into a substantial four-metre island. New cabinetry in Melteca Aged Ash provides concealed storage for small appliances alongside a glazed cabinet for displaying the owners’ glassware. A discreet pop-up power outlet keeps the expansive benchtop functional without disrupting its clean, uncluttered appearance.
